Emergency Preparedness Including Bioterrorism:
The National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) has developed Emergency Preparedness Including Bioterrorism: An All Hazards Guide for Local Boards of Health. This guide is designed for local board of health members and others interested in ensuring the ir community is properly prepared to effectively respond to a man- made or natural disaster.
Boards of health are responsible for fulfilling three public health core functions - assessment, policy development, and assurance. This means that for a health agency they oversee boards; ensure that there are sufficient resources; effective policies and procedures; partnerships with the public; and regular evaluation of the agency’s programs and services. This includes emergency preparedness.
The guide is designed to help local board of health members understand their role in preparation for a variety of hazards. Local boards of health are responsible for assuring that adequate public health services are provided in their communities, including protecting the community from the risks associated with man-made or natural disasters.
